As Head of Marketing – Europe, Middle East & Africa, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing all aspects of the marketing programs focusing on creating awareness, demand, and engagement related to Blackboard’s products and services for both existing clients and prospects across EMEA. There is also a key focus on retaining our existing clients within this region. Reporting to the Director of International Field Marketing, you will work closely with regional sales teams and the other members of the central marketing team to develop, align, and execute on go-to-market activities, pipeline contribution, and tracking the results of the marketing campaigns.


The ideal candidate is a passionate, customer-centric marketer with the ability to create compelling messages for different target audiences. This person will employ marketing best practices, regional scalability and develop further innovative ideas to drive Blackboard’s demand in the region. To create the demand, the candidate will leverage marketing programs directly developed and launched locally and through participation in global campaigns.


Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the EMEA annual marketing plan, working with the Director of International Field Marketing, marketing colleagues, sales teams, and partners
  • Working closely with the Vice President of Sales, EMEA and country managers to ensure marketing resources and activities are prioritized to support new business and retention targets
  • Creating and organizing marketing content for programs, leadership pieces from initial copy development to asset and campaign production, for strategic campaigns in the region
  • Developing, managing, and executing all aspects of the marketing programs focusing on creating demand and retention for Blackboard’s products and services from both existing clients and prospect and develop further innovative ideas to drive Blackboard’s business in the region
  • Managing lead nurturing, automated life-cycle messaging, event-triggered, and prospect-facing email campaigns
  • Planning and executing a series of cross-format events from industry leadership forums to series of webinars and deliver measurable ROI
  • Building and maintaining a close collaboration with the sales organization, including coordination of the development of regional specific marketing programs, follow-up activities, pipeline contribution, result tracking, and team communication
  • Becoming fluent in the marketplace dynamics, client segment needs, roles, and personas and developing and helping to execute scalable marketing activities based on this client-centric and segmented approach
  • Generating reports and analysis to support marketing key performance indicators such as lead generation, lead follow-up, and lead conversion
  • Managing a team of marketing staff and occasional contracting staff
  • This role requires occasional travel


The Candidate:

Required skills/qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communication, or business
  • At least eight years of marketing experience working in B2B industry, tech vendor, or educational technology arena
  • Proven track record of driving successful positioning and content strategy for marketing programs across multiple markets
  • Strong planning and project management skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize, be detail-oriented, and meet deadlines
  • Proactive communicator and has a track record of strong teamwork and collaboration with all levels in an organization
  • Experience in managing and operating field events, customer conferences, and exhibitions
  • Previous experience with HTML email, marketing automation platforms (e.g. Eloqua), and managing online programs and campaigns
  • Excellent writing, proof-reading, copywriting, and editing skills
  • Ability to travel across the EMEA territory and globally as required


Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Prior education industry experience
