Our User Experience & Design (UXD) organization helps shape the future of Blackboard’s products and solutions. Made up of user experience and design leaders who work across both web and mobile platforms and take a hands-on role in a highly collaborative team environment, they champion best-in-class work throughout the Blackboard organization. Our team believes that user experiences are as much about behavior and emotion as it is about usability, utility and accessibility.

As a Senior UX Designer on our team, you will be responsible for building visual design explorations, comps, interactive simulations, and product specifications based on users’ behaviors, needs, and use-cases. You will work with other UXD colleagues and Blackboard partners to produce and ship products, as well as work within existing brand guidelines and evolving these guidelines in new ways.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Generating UX explorations, various fidelity comps, interactive simulations, and production specifications
  • Mentoring junior designers to ensure high-quality team output
  • Defining research needs and driving user/client advocacy
  • Leveraging UX standards and processes that drive cohesive experiences across Blackboard’s portfolio
  • Working with UXD peers and cross-functional partners useful and usable products and solutions
  • Being ambassadors for our end-users and establish empathy

The Candidate:

Required qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in UX Design, with demonstrated experience in driving innovative products and solutions. Candidates must provide a portfolio of their work with their application, highlighting extensive breadth of thinking from problem stating/identification, research, concept explorations and refinements, as well as final solutions.

Required skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a design field (UX, Graphics, Industrial, Visual)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience within a UX Design related area
  • Extensive knowledge of design practice, disciplines, and principles
  • Experienced with industry-standard Design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, Figma, or other prototyping tools
  • Strong collaborator; ability to receive and incorporate critique from peers and stakeholders as well as provide meaningful feedback
  • An outstanding body of work that incorporates design-thinking (or similar) methodologies where the end-user is at the center of the solution
  • Ability to lead 3+ design projects independently at different stages of delivery, while also collaboratively working with other team members across other projects, without sacrificing quality
  • An exceptional eye for detail
  • Experienced in leading a project from a UX Design perspective
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; ability to clearly articulate and communicate ideas with senior level management
  • Highly organized, motivated, and efficient
  • Hybrid interaction and visual designer
  • Ability to maintain high standards of accountability, owning responsibility around design decisions, timelines, and quality

Preferred skills/qualifications:

A background in research or other qualitative/quantitative means to inform user experiences
